Diabetes Data

Introduction

The heart of Changing Diabetes Barometer is the data. By reinforcing the call to action to ‘measure, share, and improve’ the data associated with diabetes, together we can work to advocate for change that will result in lowering the incidence of diabetes, improving the outcome for those who have this chronic disease, and reversing the trend of increased costs to society.

Quality of Care

Information on outcomes for people with diabetes based upon diabetes indicators, complications, targets, and ideal doctor visits.

Prevalence of Diabetes

Data showing the total number of diabetes cases in the population at a given time. Where actual numbers do not exist, evidence based models are used to estimate the total number of people with diabetes now and what is projected in the future.

Cost of Care

Data on the direct healthcare costs per person with diabetes, and how this cost is split across the various treatment and management areas.

Access to Care

Measures the proportion of each country’s population that is reached by appropriate health services. Access to care is determined using key indicators, which were selected based upon the relevance and availability of data.

Please note that because standards and methods of data collection vary widely in different parts of the world, comparisons should be used with caution. Comparisons are only valid if the data collection circumstances and population are similar. Comparisons may provide useful inspiration for improvement.
